How to Merge PDFs Online Free (Without Uploading)
Merging PDFs means putting two or more PDF files into one file, in the order you choose. You might merge scanned pages, a form and its annexures, or several chapters into one document for upload or printing.
How to merge PDFs, step by step
- Open the Merge PDFs tool and choose 2 or more PDF files.
- Use the ↑ and ↓ buttons to put them in the right order, and × to remove a file you added by mistake.
- Tap Merge PDFs and download the combined file, named merged.pdf.
- Open the downloaded file and check the page order and page count before you submit it anywhere.
What merging does not do
Merging does not change the content of your pages, and it does not shrink the file much — the combined file is roughly the sum of the originals. If you need a smaller file, use the Compress PDF tool afterwards, but note it does not shrink embedded images much. Merging does not work on password-protected (encrypted) PDFs.
Common mistakes
- Merging in the wrong order — always check the list order before you merge, not after.
- Merging a scanned PDF and expecting searchable text — scanned pages are images, so the merged file will still have no text layer. Use the PDF to Text tool to check whether a PDF has text at all.
- Uploading sensitive PDFs to an online merger — this tool runs in your browser, so your PDFs are not uploaded to a server.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a limit on how many PDFs I can merge?
No fixed limit in the tool, but very large files may be slow in your browser. Merge in batches if a file is hundreds of pages.
Can I split a merged PDF again?
Yes — use the Split PDF tool to take a page range out, or the Extract PDF Pages tool to keep only chosen pages.
