SSC Photo and Signature Requirements Explained

By SWInfoSystems · Published 3 November 2026 · Updated 3 November 2026

SSC recruitment forms ask you to upload a signature image that follows the official notification. If the image is the wrong size, format or quality, the form may reject it — so check the notification for your exam before you upload, and format the image to the specs it states.

The specs the SSC tool formats to

The SSC Exam Signature tool on this site formats your signature to the following official requirements, as listed on the tool page. Always verify them against the current notification for your exam, because specs can change between exams.

  • Format: JPEG/JPG only
  • File size: 10 to 20 KB
  • Dimension: about 4.0 cm (width) × 2.0 cm (height)
  • Pixel size at 300 DPI: about 472 × 236 px
  • Signature must be clear and legible
  • Blurred signatures will be rejected
  • For PwD (VH) candidates, a thumb impression is allowed

How to make a good signature image

  1. Sign on plain white paper with a black pen, in your normal signature — not in block capitals, and not someone else's signature.
  2. Photograph or scan it in good light, without shadows or ruled lines in the frame.
  3. Open the SSC Exam Signature tool, upload the image, and download the formatted JPEG. Check the output size (it should be in the 10–20 KB range) and that the signature is still readable.
  4. Upload the downloaded file to the SSC form, and preview it in the form before you submit.

Common rejections, and how to avoid them

  • Blurred or faint signature: re-sign with a darker pen and better light, not by increasing contrast until the strokes break.
  • Wrong file size: do not just rename a PNG to .jpg — use the formatter, which resizes and re-encodes the image to the stated size range.
  • Signature in the wrong box: the SSC signature box is landscape (wider than tall). A portrait photo of your signature will be squashed — crop it to landscape first.

Other exam formats, for comparison

RRB, NEET and bank forms have different signature/photo specs — do not reuse an SSC-formatted image for another exam without checking. Use the RRB Railway Signature tool, NEET Signature tool and Banking Thumb Impression tool for those exams, and always check the current notification.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the same signature for photo and signature boxes?
No. The photo box and signature box have different sizes and purposes. Use the India Post photo tool or the relevant exam photo tool for the photo, and the signature tool for the signature.

What if my signature is rejected after submission?
Follow the correction window and instructions in the official notification for your exam. This guide cannot change a submitted form.
